ABOUT
Cortesi Gallery was founded in 2013 by Stefano and Andrea Cortesi, whose passion for modern and contemporary art is rooted in a longstanding family tradition of collecting. With locations in Lugano and Milano, the gallery has established itself as a key point of reference for collectors, scholars, and institutions engaged with Postwar European Art, with a particular focus on Italian and international movements from the 1950s to the 1980s.
Guided by a curatorial vision that combines historical depth, critical research, and market awareness, Cortesi Gallery specialises in the artistic experimentation of the 1960s and 1970s. Its program specialises in pivotal movements such as the ZERO group, kinetic and programmed art, Informel, and lyrical abstraction. The gallery has presented and published work by artists including Piero Dorazio, Enrico Castellani, Agostino Bonalumi, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Pietro Consagra, Grazia Varisco, Günther Uecker, Heinz Mack, and Walter Leblanc — figures who played a central role in redefining the visual language of the postwar period.
In recent years, the gallery has expanded its program to include a carefully selected group of contemporary artists, fostering a dialogue between historical legacies and current practices while maintaining the same curatorial rigour and commitment to research.
Cortesi Gallery is a regular participant in leading international art fairs, including Art Dubai, TEFAF, Miart, and Arte Fiera Bologna, where it presents museum-quality works to a global audience of collectors, curators, and institutions.
Beyond its exhibition and fair programming, the gallery is deeply committed to scholarship and publishing. Every exhibition is accompanied by extensively researched catalogues, developed in collaboration with prominent Italian and international art historians, critics, and curators. Contributors have included Alberto Salvadori, Marco Meneguzzo, Ilaria Bignotti, and Francesca Pola, whose insights help to contextualise the gallery’s exhibitions within the broader history of 20th-century art.
With over a decade of experience and a distinctive curatorial identity, Cortesi Gallery is a trusted advisor to private collectors and public institutions. It supports acquisitions, academic research, and long-term collection building with professionalism, discretion, and vision.
Looking ahead, Cortesi Gallery will continue cultivating a dynamic, internationally engaged program of exhibitions, collaborations, and special projects that reflect its enduring commitment to artistic excellence, critical substance, and cultural relevance.
