After graduating in Architecture from Milan Polytechnic in 1984, she moved to Los Angeles from 1990 to 1992 to teach Industrial Design at the University of California (UCLA) and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Since the mid-1980s, she has combined her design work with art, focusing on the theme of Nature through the use of recycled or newly produced metals. Thus, between 1985 and 1993, she created the Alberi Elettrologici, a series of sculptures inspired by Nature and the recycling theme, made from metal scraps found in Lecco’s industries. These works were published in various magazines and exhibited for the first time in 1989 at the Biennale dei Giovani Artisti at Castello di Sartirana and Villa Bernocchi.
Since 1997 Tiziana Lorenzelli has been teaching Industrial Design continuously at the Faculty of Design of the Politecnico di Milano and since 2008 at the Faculty of Engineering in Brescia. During these years, she continued her research into the potential of new materials in both design and art. In 2009 she developed a new, highly sophisticated material, Aluflexia®, initially conceived by the artist for the FOIL vase (a design object that won the 2011 International Design Award in Los Angeles). Subsequently, she used for a new series of sculptures inspired by Nature and the Cosmos, exhibited for the first time in 2012 in the 100% Recyclable exhibition at the MEAND space in Saint Moritz.
In 2019 Lorenzelli included some of these works in the group show The Nascence at the Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery in Dubai, followed in 2021 by the solo show Goldish at the Forte dei Marmi venue. This exhibition saw the involvement of artist Agostino Ferrari, a master who assigns Tiziana Lorenzelli’s research the definition of “Cosmic Naturalism”.
